Description
Mountain Equipment began in 1961 due to a need for specialist down gear, over 60 years later the Gasherbrum Jacket continues the tradition, bringing all our modern expertise and experience.
The Gasherbrum provides crucial insulation for those going to the world’s highest and coldest places in lightweight style where every gram counts. Proven on the longest human powered Polar Journey in history it was used for over 100 days on a return trip to the South Pole and it’s seen use up to 7 and 8000m by experienced users taking alpine style climbing to the highest mountains.
360g of our highest quality Goose Down are controlled with a full box wall construction for the maximum warmth, each baffle being optimised in shape and size to maximise the performance and loft of the fill. Our elasticated EXL system in the back of the jacket helps this further, adding no weight it gently hugs the user to dramatically reduce dead space between layers and greatly reduce compression of the down. EXL continues into the ultra-protective hood where it not only increases warmth but also helps to accommodate a helmet or other layer with the minimum of adjustment in conditions well below zero.
A WINDSTOPPERⓇ fabric shell provides complete protection from the wind and very high level of weather resistance alongside the breathability required to prevent moisture build up during extended use. Internal mesh pockets are a crucial feature to prevent water bottles freezing and ensure that spare gloves and mitts stay warm.
